8/5/2010 Oban 7's Winners
Oban Lorne RFC hosted their 36th annual sevens tournament last Saturday, with 12 teams competing from all over Scotland.
The format of the competition consisted of four groups of three teams each battling for a place in the cup, plate and bottle semi finals.
Oban entered three teams into the competition. Oban A, B and Oban U’19s. They were also joined by some familiar faces from the Oban Exiles team who were also entered into the tournament.
All of the Oban sides acquitted themselves well on the day with the Exiles making the cup semi final unlucky not to make it through to the main final. Oban Lorne A also made the plate semi final, while the U’19s did well to reach the bottle final and lose by a couple of late tries to Cambuslang.
Congratulations must go to Edinburgh Accies who won the Cup, Strathclyde Tech Tigers, the Plate and Cambuslang who won the Bottle competitions playing some great free flowing and entertaining rugby throughout the afternoon.
Thanks goes to all the visiting teams who provided a high standard of sevens rugby on the day as well as adding to the atmosphere of a very successful day for Oban Lorne RFC.
The club would also like to thank Sandy Rokitta and his team for running the event, the referees, and all of the volunteers who were on hand to help out on the day.
Despite the 7’s season having started Oban Lorne 1st XV still have two important West Division 1 games left this season. The first of which is against Loch Lomond next Saturday at Glencruitten, KO 3pm.
This game will follow an Argyll & Bute youth rugby gathering which will also be held at the Glencruitten playing fields from 12pm, all welcome on the day.
