Oban Lose to Cumbernauld
SHE West Division 1

Oban Lorne lost an eleven year record this week ( never having lost to Cumbernauld in this period) after a well-drilled Cumbernauld team came to Oban and won a match.

Not for the first time this season the home team struggled to field a team due to injuries and unavailability.

Neil Rimmer made a first start of the season at second row with Colin Mackenzie also starting for the first time at fullback. Veterans Bill Matthews and Colin Davren were also drafted into the squad.

The makeshift Oban team put in an excellent defensive effort to limit the league leaders to a 5-0 advantage at half time.

Cumbernauld started the game the better team with the majority of possession and it did not take long for them to break the deadlock with an unconverted try.

Despite the early score and domination of possession Cumbernauld could not add to their lead in the first half as a determined Oban defence cleared their line on several occasions. The first half finished with Cumbernauld 5–0 up.

The second half started much in the same vein with the well-drilled Cumbernauld pack physically dominating.

The continuous pressure was soon to tell and Cumbernauld again scored under the posts.

Soon after Cumbernauld were awarded a penalty and from the resulting lineout Alan McLeod went over for his second try, then added a third to claim the bonus points.

This week sees Oban make the long journey to Ayr to face Millbrae who are going well in the league. Coach Corrie Louw will be hoping for a bigger playing squad to chose his team from.
