First Away win of the season at Paisley!
Allan Wright SHE WEST DIVISION 1

Paisley 5-10 Oban Lorne

Oban Lorne travelled to Paisley last Saturday hoping to record their first away league win of the season to stretch their recent winning run to three games.
Coach Corrie Louw made a few changes to the side that beat Clydebank at Glencruitten the previous weekend. Mo Flynn started in the front row, Chris MacDonald replaced the injured Alex Cadzow at Stand off and Alan Beaton returned on the wing.
Oban could not have made a worse start against relegation threatened Paisley. The kick off was not collected properly by the men in green and found themselves on the back foot early on in the game. Paisley took confidence from this and with the aid of some poor defending in the Oban backline scored the first try of the game after only a few minutes. The resulting conversion was missed giving the home team an early 5-0 lead.
Oban low now nervous after conceding this early score struggled to keep the Paisley attack at bay and were lucky not to concede more tries as the first half went on. Oban however did eventually improve but were denied several scoring opportunities late in the half both by good Paisley defending and poor finishing.
Oban started the second half as they ended the first and this time were rewarded with their first score of the afternoon from Mo Flynn, his first try for Oban Lorne. The score was converted by Scrum Half Euan Wilson to give Oban a 7-5 lead.
Both teams played part to a scrappy but physical next half hour to the game with the only highlight being a yellow card to a Paisley forward for diving over the top of the ruck. The last ten minutes was a tense affair with Paisley giving their all to find a winning score. Oban however maintained good discipline and kept possession well to edge out the final few minutes. The last play of the game resulted in Oban being awarded a penalty in front of the posts which was easily kicked again by Wilson to seal a narrow 10-5 hard fought win over a determined Paisley side.
The win moves Oban within only a few points of 4rth place in the league and considering recent form the team look on course to push further up the table as the season draws to a close.
Oban are out of action next week due to the Scotland v England International next Saturday but are in action the following weekend at Glencruitten to face Loch Lomond ko 3pm
