Strathclyde Police 5 : 40 Oban Lorne

Oban Lorne stretched their recent winning run to 5 games last Saturday as the side eased past bottom placed Strathclyde Police at Lochinch.
Coach Corrie Louw made a few changes to the side that beat Carrick the previous weekend with Jamie MacMillan coming into the second row, Ryan Jackson starting in the backrow , and a return for Bert Wright in the backline.
Oban started the game well with the backline taking advantage of the open space running the ball well. Oban’s first try of the game was scored by Andy MacDougall who burst through a gap in midfield beating a majority of the Police backs before touching down under the posts.
Oban continued with sustained pressure on the Police defence but were let down by the lack of a clinical edge which meant they could not add to the scoreboard. The second try was scored by Oban captain Gary McEwan, his first of the season. The ball moving wide through the backs and passed back inside to McEwan who finished off, this was converted and gave Oban a 12-0 lead.
At this stage it looked like Oban would run away with the score line but the Police upped their game and scored a try from close range after several phases of play in the Oban 22.
Oban however hit back with an individual try from Bert Wright who changed his angle of attack in midfield which was not expected from the Police defence which he sailed through scored under the posts. This was converted giving Oban a 19-5 lead at half time.
Oban made a couple of changes at half time with Angus Munro replacing Allan Wright on the right wing and Craig McGougan also making way.
The men in green made a positive start to the half and secured a bonus point with their 4rth try of the afternoon which was scored by Andy MacDougall. MacDougall who caught the ball out wide cut back into the pitch and broke free of tackles from the Police full back and winger to score his second of the afternoon. Wilson was on hand to convert giving Oban a 26-5 lead.
The remaining 30 minutes saw Strathclyde Police adopt a more direct approach to the game and at points were piling the pressure on the Oban defence. However the good passing and support play from Oban were rewarded with a further two tries from Mark MacQueen and Euan Wilson to put the game out of sight. There was also a first Oban Lorne appearance for 2nd row Jonathan Sayer who came on with 10 minutes to play.
The result lifts Oban to 5th place in West Division 1 and the side are now only three points short of 3rd with two games to play this season against Wigtownshire and Loch Lomond both at Glencruiten, which will aid them in stretching their winning run even further.
